WORLD EXCLUSIVE*: MIKE VOGEL as CAPTAIN JAMES TIBERIUS KIRK! ***UPDATED***

After months of speculation, it may be that that 28-year-old Pennsylvania native Mike Vogel (Poseidon) is the front runner to play James T. Kirk in the 11th Star Trek film.

Paramount had no comment and neither did Vogel's agency, which means it's most likely true. Interestingly Vogel will be seen in the J.J. Abrams produced Untitled Monster Project (Cloverfield or what ever-the-hell-it-is).

An intresting choice folks. He was good in Poseidon but plenty of room to grow yet. Here is a quick photoshop effort. No news yet on The Shat appearing.

***UPDATE***
Stargate Atlantis' Dr. Beckett (Paul McGillion) could be playing Scotty as he's just been for an audition. Intrestingly McGillion was actually born in Scotland, but lives in Canada where James Doohan was from - wierd eh?

*Is not an exclusive

Just because Paul McGillion was born in Scotland doesn't necessarily make him "Scottish".

In Australia most of the "Australian" actors were born else where, Nicole Kidman, Russel Crowe, Hugo Weaving and Olivia Newton-John are all considered Australian. My guess is that it is the same deal for Canadians.

It is not the same way in Ireland, just because you are born some where else to a Cork parent and move to Cork doesn't make you a Corkonian.

Fair enough. I've made an edit to the post to correct this. McGillion calls himself Canadian actually.

Actually Paul was born in Scotland to Scottish parents, emigrated to Canada at the age of 2 but then went back for several years during his teens. So he has lived in Scotland for an extended amount of time. Having spoken to the actor, he does consider himself BOTH Scottish and Canadian and will slip between the two accents flawlessly (he can literally do every other word in the different accents because they're both natural to him). He said in the past he tends to speak with a 'Scottish accent' with his family.

So he is very much Scottish.
